SCoS Conference 2019 – Improving Workplace Mental Health

In place of our usually meeting, SGWS members will be attending the SCoS Conference on October 30th at The Lighthouse. Health & Safety professionals from across Scotland will gather at The Lighthouse in Glasgow for an exceptional conference focused on improving the mental health of our workplaces. Michael McGinley MBE

It is with sad hearts we share news that Mike McGinley MBE, Life Vice-President of SG·WS, passed away peacefully at home on the 22nd August 2019. Michael was born in 1925 and became an electrician. While working for Goodyear at the Drumchapel site he was asked by the general manager if he would like to become a safety officer. Excited by this new challenge he never looked back. Guidance for Fire Safety in Specialised Housing

Ash Denham, Community Safety Minister, today launched a consultation on fire safety guidance. The Guidance has been drafted to deliver on the sixth recommendation from the Review of the Fire Safety Regime for High Rise Domestic Buildings in Scotland. The Review’s other recommendations relate to fire safety in high rise domestic buildings and were agreed by the Scottish Government Ministerial Working Group on Building and Fire Safety that was set up following the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower. This month our Chair, Alan Gunn, was elected as Treasurer of Safety Groups UK. Congratulations to Alan! Jane Murdoch installed as Chair of SCoS

It is with great pride that we congratulate Jane Murdoch on her new position as Chair of the Scottish Chamber of Safety. SCoS was formed in 1952 as the coordinating body for the national safety groups that had arisen throughout Scottish Industry and has provided a strong voice for the safety profession for more than 65 years.
